On-line Activities with Kids: Networks and Writing and Creating Worlds

Do you use the networks and simulations online to get your kids involved in learning? I am trying to think of ways how. I am a member of several sci fi networks that includes groups for writers and fan writers. Some of the network devices that are in place might work with kids.
